Active worship
Activities based on Luke 24.1-12
A simple worship activity for all ages
You will need a map or drawing of your local area or region, and pins. Ask people to think of the places they will go to during the coming week.
Invite them to discuss with their neighbours how easy it is, or isn’t, to witness to Jesus in those places. In what different ways might we show that we are Christians? Encourage people to think in terms of practical actions (e.g. caring for the world or for people, or acting justly) as well as signs/symbols and words. Invite everyone to come and put a pin in the map to represent where they will spend much/most of their time in the coming week. Ask everyone, as they do this, to pray that God might use them where they are. You could play quiet background music throughout this time. End with a prayer of commitment to witness in our daily lives.

Easter rap
Display the words ‘He is alive’ three times, with the emphasis on the words differently each time: HE is alive; He is ALIVE, He IS alive! Begin to say this rhythmically. Invite everyone to join in. After a while, pause the ‘rap’ and invite people to suggest – and shout out – ways in which we know that Jesus is alive today. Repeat the ‘rap’ as a chorus after each individual or group suggestion.

My witness
You will need postcards and pens. Ask people to discuss: If someone asked them what the story of Easter was all about, what would they say? Ask people to write on their postcard one sentence explaining what Jesus’ death and resurrection means to them. Display these on a noticeboard to bear witness.

Easter garden
You will need foil baking trays, some earth, stones or small rocks, small plants – and perhaps some lolly sticks and glue to make crosses. Create an Easter garden showing the empty tomb. You could make several small gardens or one larger one. As they make the garden, ask people to tell each other the story again, thinking about what it would have felt like on that first Easter Day.
