An active way into prayer

• Explain that anointing is a way of honouring someone and showing they are valued.
• Pass round a bowl of fragranced oil, and invite everyone to dip their fingertips in lightly and then anoint the back of their neighbour’s hand with one gentle stroke.
• Play some quiet music as this happens.
• Conclude by saying together:
  Thank you for the extravagance of your love,
  O Lord, that values and honours us.
  Amen.
