ROOTS: Essential resources for worship preparation

ROOTS is a flexible resource for churches today, designed to meet the needs of churches in the 21st century, and offering material that can easily be adapted to suit a wide range of patterns and styles of worship and learning.

ROOTS is structured around the Revised Common Lectionary. Each week, ROOTS offers a common thread in the materials across the age range and over both the magazines, so that everyone will have the opportunity to explore the same thread.

ROOTS is ecumenical in process, development and production. The material has been shaped by feedback from ROOTS users in all roles in worship and learning in their churches, and advice from leading practitioners across the denominations.

As its name suggests, ROOTS Adult & All Age provides resources for adult worship and for when all ages worship together.  ROOTS Children & Young People seeks to resource learning and worship with children from about age 3 to about age 11, and young people from 11 to about 16. In both magazines there is plenty of choice: this is not a single programme of the 'one size fits all' kind. On the ROOTS website, you will find supplementary resources, downloadable templates and a Take-home sheet for parents and children. Follow the links for more information.

But the best way to find out how ROOTS can help you to help your church is to try it for yourself!

A 'sampler' is available by following this link or clicking the image on the right; it carries the resources for the week of 3 May 2009 with an introduction to ROOTS and helpful labels on the resources that will help you to understand what's what. We suggest this as the best option for those who are completely new to ROOTS.
