Press release October 2002

10,000 subscribers and rising

The team behind Roots are delighted to announce that since its launch in May 2002 at CRE Roots has gained over 10,000 subscribers.

Roots is a new lectionary-based resource, specially designed to develop the worship and learning of the whole church community. Roots consists of two bimonthly magazines - Roots Children and Young People and Roots Worship. Both magazines use the same Bible readings as a basis, providing pick 'n' mix ideas and resources for each Sunday throughout the year and for the main Christian festivals.

An additional bonus is the companion web site www.rootsontheweb.com, which features supplementary resources for subscribers, and material developed in quick response to topical events, from serious news to pop culture.

Since the launch of the web site we can report that:

  • there have been 43,000 page requests
  • over 8,000 people have looked at the Harvest resources
  • over 1,000 people downloaded the all-age service for Harvest
  • over 1,000 people made use of our links to resources for the anniversary of 9/11
  • over 9,000 computers have downloaded information from the web site
  • topical 'fast response' resources have been posted on a weekly basis on topics such as the World Cup, immigration and Earth Summit

Representatives from a number of the major denominations have been working together through CTBI on Roots. In response to extensive research they developed a magazine and web-based resource that is relevant, challenging and inspiring.

David Goodbourn, Secretary General of CTBI, said:
"We are delighted that the response to Roots has been so positive. This ecumenical venture offers the church the opportunity to work, learn and grow together across the age ranges and in all church communities."

The November/December issue is currently available and the January/February issue will be available soon.
